When To Go To Alaska?
I loved going to Alaska in the summer, the weather was beautiful and you can still do so many fun winter activities without freezing! It’s an amazing place to add to your summer travel bucketlist. Best Time To Go To Alaska (May - September)
You might think you can’t go on glaciers or dog sledding but all of those are still possible in the summer.
What Is There To Do in Anchorage Alaska?
1. Go On a Helicopter Tour, Land On A Glacier, and Go Dog Sledding
This was by far the most epic things to do in Anchorage Alaska and one you’ll remember for the rest of your life. We booked this tour and went into a helicopter, rode over Knik Glacier which was absolutely stunning, and then got to go dog sledding ON THE GLACIER.
You then get to meet the dogs, see their puppies, and see where the trainers live! (yes they live on a glacier for the summer!)
This tour includes a 30-minute helicopter ride to a glacier, landing and meeting the dog’s mushers, a 20-minute dog sled ride, and an epic helicopter ride back over glaciers. This is one of the most fun things to do in Alaska!
Book here, it’s a tad pricey but 10000% worth it! Don’t forget to dress warm, its still freezing on the glacier.
2. Go Ice Climbing On Matanuska Glacier
Climbing a glacier has to be on the top of the best things to do in Anchorage Alaska.
But you can’t climb this magnificent glacier without a tour guide. You can either choose a walking tour or an ice climbing tour, both of which are epic things to do in Anchorage Alaska. We chose the latter and it was truly one of the most epic things you’ll experience.
First, you walk 3 miles out into the glacier, and your tour guide will teach you exactly how to repel, all the equipment you need, and exactly how to do it!
It was absolutely thrilling and truly took my breath away. I 100% recommend it!

3. Eat at Gwennie’s Old Alaska Restaurant
What is there to do in Anchorage Alaska? Eat! This was one of my favorite things to do in Anchorage Alaska and places to eat!
You can try all sorts of Alaskan dishes including reindeer sausage and other yummy breakfast foods but my all-time favorite was the country fried chicken.
The batter was so crispy and the chicken was so juicy. 10/10 recommend.
4. Alaska Wild Life Conservation Center
If you love animals, this is the place for you. The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center takes injured/orphaned animals and rescue them, allowing them to still live in an outside environment safely.
You can see some really amazing and cool animals here up close including bears, bison, porcupines, eagles, and even wolves. Admission is about $20 per person! It’s an incredible thing to do in Anchorage Alaska.
