St Lucia mud baths

Whether it’s your first time in St Lucia, or you’ve been here before it can be challenging to figure out if the St Lucia Mud Baths are worth going to.

I remember our first time here, I packed all the wrong things and had so many regrets sitting in my wet bathing suit in the car.

Welcome to the St Lucia Mud Baths: the World’s ONLY drive-in volcano, one that is rumored to make you look younger when you bathe in it but it’s a little bit far. Depending on your expectations, it can be worth a trip.

How To Get To The St Lucia Mud Baths

There are various ways to get to the St Lucia Mud Baths including driving by yourself, going on a hotel tour, or going on a cruise tour which we did!

This is a great way to see the island however, what was supposed to be a 5.5-hour tour turned out to be around 6.5 hours, 5 of which was spent in the car.

The roads are windy as well, so most of the passengers on our bus ended up getting sick for a majority of the trip and it felt pretty miserable. But you make amazing stops on the way that are beautiful and the drive is so scenic, helping you see all the beauty of the islands.

St Lucia Mud Baths: What To Bring

St Lucia mud baths

If you want to go into the St Lucia Mud Baths, I recommend bringing a towel and wearing a bathing suit you don’t mind getting dirty. My best tip is to wearing a dark-colored swimsuit.

The mud tends to stain your swimsuit and I recommend bringing a coverup so you don’t mind getting dirty.

Since it’s recommended to shower AFTER you get home from the mud baths, you’ll probably get your cover-up dirty as well. Bring a big tshirt to change into after so you’re not sitting on the car ride back wet. All your clothing will smell for weeks afterwards (even if you wash it a couple of times), so don’t bring any of your favorites.

How Much Are The St Lucia Mud Baths?

Admission to the St Lucia Mud Baths starts at $10.00 USD for adults and $5.00 for children. They offer a tour experience too for $9.00 or $15.00 for both.

We had the experience without the tour and had an amazing time! If you come on your own without a car, I don’t believe there’s a time limit either.

St Lucia Mud Baths: What It’s Really Like

Unlike the photos and videos you see online, the St Lucia Mud Baths are quite smaller than they look, and funny enough, they’re quite smelly.

If you go on a cruise, it can get really crowded in the pools, so I recommend trying to go as early as you can and on a weekday. But the pools itself are so warm and inviting, it’s such a unique experience, and the St Lucia Mud Baths really does make your skin very soft.

Benefits of the St Lucia Mud Baths

It’s been said that these baths will make anyone who bathes in it look younger - now I’m not sure that’s too true but the mud is said to detoxify the body and help heal sunburns, eczema, sore joints, and more.

I personally have a lot of eczema and felt like my arms were so much softer after bathing. It’s an amazing natural spa treatment!

How To Bathe In The St Lucia Mud Baths

To bathe in the St Lucia Mud Baths, first, you enter the warm pools to get your body wet.

Then grab some mud, and smear it all over your body, coating and exfoliating it.

At the St Lucia Mud Baths, you’ll find two different types - white mud and black mud. The only difference is that the black mud is a bit more difficult to get off.

Then you wait for the mud on your body to dry before getting back into the warm pools.

Finally our tour guide says everyone makes this mistake at the St Lucia Mud Baths, but you’re not supposed to rinse off the mud immediately as this will actually rinse off all the benefits!

Instead, wipe off with a towel, and wait until you get back to your hotel or cruise ship to take a shower.

St Lucia Mud Baths: Is It Worth Going?

I would definitely recommend paying for this one-of-a-kind mud bath and volcano visit if you’re in St Lucia for vacation or coming on your own. But if you’re coming from a cruise as an excursion, I would recommend trying a different experience. This is simply because the drive is insanely hard, windy, and tough for just a short experience. We spent most of the 6.5 hours in a car with multiple people getting sick.

One girl even had to open up her handbag to throw up inside!

However, if you’re visiting St Lucia via flight, staying in a resort here, or don’t get sick during car rides, I would definitely recommend it!

And there you have it! Everything you need to know about the St Lucia Mud Baths, from how to get to the St Lucia Mud Baths, to how much it costs, and everything you need to bring… I hope this guide prepared you for everything you need to know.
