Best Female Solo Travel Destinations:
If someone were to ask me, “What is the best place for solo female travel?” This would be it.
Japan was the first place I ever traveled to alone at the age of 21, it was truly one of the times of my life. It is my #1 recommendation for places to travel alone as a woman, and one of the best solo travel destinations. The crime rates here are extremely low and the locals are super friendly.
I was never lonely because there were SO many things to do! I was even able to go to four different places alone, Tokyo, Osaka, Nara, and Kyoto.
Things To Do in Japan Alone
Going to Universal Studios in Osaka
Feeding the deer in Nara Deer Park
Exploring the Bamboo Forest in Kyoto
Get lost at Shibuya Crossing Center
Go shopping at Takeshita Street (Harajuku)

Japan has some great hotels, but they also have really great hostels for less than $50 a night!
You can consider staying at a capsule hotel as well as this is such a unique twist to hostels and they’re usually both male and female dorms.
2. Seoul, South Korea
What is the safest country for solo female travel? I spent four months in Seoul, South Korea by myself and it was completely life-changing.
Seoul, South Korea has to be on your list of the best female solo travel destinations because not only do the locals speak more English than you think, but they are incredibly friendly, there’s SO much to do and it’s incredibly easy to get around.
I’ve seen women completely wasted on the streets and have seen random men take off their jackets, put it over them, leave them alone and wish them well on the streets. It’s incredibly safe and I definitely recommend putting this on your best solo travel destinations list.

Have a seafood feast at Noryangjin Fish Market
Eat all the local favorites at Gwangjang Market
Go cafe hopping and experience the local cafe culture

Where to Stay in Seoul As A Solo Female Traveler
I mostly stayed in Airbnbs during my time here and never had any issues! I loved staying in Hongdae, Myeongdong, and the Gangnam neighborhoods. They always felt really safe, central, and there was so much to do.
Definitely put Seoul, South Korea as one of the best solo travel destinations.
3. New York City, USA
Most people wouldn’t think New York City would be one of the best solo travel destinations but hear me out: Although it’s not the safest place, there is so much to do here, it’s super easy to get around, and no one cares if you’re alone!
Exercise common sense and don’t go out too late at night and this can easily be one of the best places to go.

Where to Stay in Seoul As A Solo Female Traveler
I wouldn’t recommend a hostel or Airbnb in New York City, instead, I would stay at a friend’s house (if you have any here) or stay at a hotel.
Hotels can be expensive but there are still alot of great budget options. Like Citizen M Bowery which is perfect for solo female travelers and in a great location. Hotels start at about $160 a night, book early for the best deals!
How do you protect yourself as a solo female traveler?
Don’t go out too late at night, and if you can afford to take an Uber, I would do so. If you can’t, be cautious on the train and when you’re waiting for the train make sure to stand behind a pole or ledge.
You can have a drink but be really cautious of your drink and how much your consuming. Maintain good judgement and always trust your gut!
NYC days are LONG, and if you’re using your phone to take amazing photos, and guide you around the city, invest in a good external battery charger. This one has a cable already so you don’t need to bring extra wires!
4. Sydney, Australia
I spent a week in Sydney, Australia by myself and it is truly one of the best female solo travel destinations. The locals are so nice and friendly, there’s so much to do, and no one cares if you’re alone!
Definitely add this one to your list for places to travel alone as a woman, especially for first timers as the locals speak English, and it’s super easy to get around.

5. Tulum, Mexico
Tulum, Mexico is one of my favorite places in the world and an amazing female solo travel destinations. The media portrays it as such a dangerous place, but I’ve been about 8 times and here are hundreds of people and digital nomads who live here.
The food is amazing, and there’s so much to do, from activities like yoga, visiting ancient cenotes, or relaxing by the beach, this is an amazing and cheap place for solo female travel.
Things To Do in Tulum Alone
Go to the beach clubs (not all of them are party clubs, a lot are relaxing and beautiful)
Visit a Cenote (my favorite ones are Dos Ojos, Gran Cenote, and Suytun Cenote
Take a yoga class at Azulik
Visit the Sculpture Art Museum
Go biking and explore the Tulum strip

Where to Stay in Tulum Alone
I always prefer staying in an Airbnb in Tulum because they’re so affordable and there are so many amazing ones to choose from!
You can stay at a hotel in the hotel zone, but they’re a little bit on the pricey side.
Don’t forget to pack ALOT of sunscreen for this trip, it can be really expensive there and the sun is strong. Here are my current favorite ones that melt into your skin and don’t leave a white cast.
6. Taipei, Taiwan
From drinking your weight in bubble tea to eating some of the best sushi you’ll ever have, to paragliding alone in the mountains, Taiwan is one of the best cheap female solo travel destinations.
I never felt unsafe here and the public transportation is so affordable and easy to take!

I stayed in a $10 hostel from HostelWorld that was incredibly cheap and clean! It was also separated from males and females and in a great location.
7. Mallorca, Spain
I absolutely loved Mallorca. It is absolutely beautiful and so underrated.
Mallorca is an amazing female solo travel destination because there’s so much to do, the locals are friendly and helpful to tourists, and crime rates are low.
